Curved vs. Straight Hodographs
In addition to the magnitude of the shear, the hodograph shape is also important in anticipating the structure and evolution of convective storms. We are most concerned with whether the hodograph is relatively straight or curved, and when it does curve, the level through which it curves and whether it curves clockwise or counterclockwise with height. These variations all have implications for storm structure.
